Recap
Game #1 Easton 48 – DTP 56
Guy’s first game as captain got off to a rough start as he started the game with only 4 players thanks to the Jays wild card game. Luckily Dave Robertson stepped in to fill the void until Dan Baker decided to make a late appearance. Gold apparently didn’t appreciate Dave’s help in the first quarter because he later got two elbows to the mouth. Luckily he escaped with all his chiclets intact. Surprisingly being short didn’t deter Gold with keeping it close all night as they decided to let Neil carry the weight and drop a measly 32 pts to open the season. Grant was up to the task dropping 29 himself as well as racking up the first tech of the season. Thankfully neither the tech nor the numerous missed bunnies from DTP were enough as DTP was able to weather any pushes from Gold and escape with a game 1 win.
Game #2 CCC 69 – DMB 82
Team red dominated most of the game with a well balanced attack. Led by captain Luke DMB had 5 players in double digits. Team CCC showed signs of light as captain Phil continued to make the shots he’s been known to make year after year but his 32 pts wasn’t enough to get his team out of the whole they had dug. Getting out rebounded one can only hope Lawson’s missed presence down low could have made this a closer game on the defensive and offensive ends. DMB with an easy one.
Game #3 KREO 67 – KRACO 64
It’s official captain Menzie will do whatever it takes to get out of the basement this year, and that includes changing his Jersey colour. Sporting the new Green look this was the game of the night. Back and forth throughout Koolhaas and Piercy took turns making it rain keeping the game close right done to the end. With a slip up from lefty near the end of the game jacking a three with a running clock early in the shot clock and only up a couple points Kraco had second life. Unfortunately they weren’t able to take advantage of the poor use of the clock and Menzie left the gym 1-0 for quite possibly the first time ever.
Prediction Record 3W – 0L
Week 2 Predictions
Game #1 Easton vs CCC
Lacking a full roster in week 1 a lot is still unknown about Guy’s team gold. One thing we do know is that CCC will need a better appearance than they had in week 1 if they want to grab their first win of the season. Both teams are hungry for a W, and both Phil and Neil will be weighted on heavily to get it. The team that finds some offensive help for those two will win this one. Team CCC’s struggles continue for another week and Guy gets his first BMBL Captaincy win.
Game #2 DTP vs KREO
Someone’s undefeated streak will quickly come to an end tonight. Menzie will try to build on last week’s success, while Grant is eager to show up and ruin his party. Grant will continue to dominate but the rest of his team will still struggle to help get points on the board. If Kreo can help keep Grants output to a minimum Menzie’s matchups prevail.
Game #3 DMB vs KRACO
DMB can run, shoot, and score as they showed in week 1 over CCC, but they are lacking in the height department. Without a true centre the height of team Kraco could cause problems for DMB unless their shooting with Albrecht and Hoogsteen can help keep the floor spread. With the addition of Bubba to an already big team in week 1 George will have the definite height advantage in this one and should have an advantage on the boards. This one should be close but size matters regardless of what your wife tells you.

WEEK ONE -- PREDICTIONS
Welcome back to another year of BMBL basketball. We are gearing up for an exciting year, with lots of new faces around the league. Will CGZ be able to defend his coveted championship with all of his ailing injuries, and will captain Wayne "Buck" Menzie be able to stay out of the basement with what looks like on paper his best draft yet. What rookie will come out on top for the rookie of the year and what rookie will surprise as the sleeper pick of the draft. Tonight it all begins !
This year your exec will be trying its best to maintain some league social awareness by maintaining the website, updating our twitter feed regularly and maybe even creating a page on the so called facebook. We hope to see lots of faces this year down at the pub (Frosty Johns). Stay tuned weekly for updates but until then check out our week one sponsor and predictions.
The week one sponsor comes all the way from Italy this week. Drafted first over all by our beloved Raptors this sponsor enjoys a good meatball and an $8 euro litre of wine. Unfortunately he’s been caught in a siesta and won’t make it in time for his 2016 season debut with Team DTP.
Predictions:
Easton vs DTP – Will Guy be able to win his first game as captain or will Mike Grants gluten free diet run circles around a team anxious to get out of the gym to catch the Jays first pitch. We’re picking DTP on this one.
CCC vs DMB – Captain Phil was runner up last year with team CCC and he’s seeking redemption, but that may have to wait until after trades after many questioned his drafting strategy this year. Captain Luke has no fear this year getting his rookie captaincy out of the way he has one goal in mind. Some say he drafted too much with his heart picking his colleagues. Hopefully it was an easy day at the office cause were going with the drywallers for this one. DMB !
Kraco vs Kreo – Who will wear what colour it is yet to be decided but one thing is for sure one team is the reigning champion. Both teams have a lot to prove this year. Will Sleepy ever show? Is Menzie’s #1 draft enough to get him over the hump this year? We think it’s enough for tonight, the rest of the year is to be determined. Team Menzie !

Welcome back to all returning BMBLers, and welcome to all new faces! A new season of basketball kicks off with the first tryouts Tuesday, September 13th at 7pm at Bowmanville high school.
This will be followed by tryouts:
Tuesday, September 20th
Tuesday, September 27th This will also be draft night!
We would also like to welcome Guy Brushey, who will be stepping into a captains role this year with the news that Buck will not be returning.
We'd also like to thank Brent Easton for his years of service as a captain as he has decided to step this down this upcoming season.
AGM DATE! -- to avoid the mass confusion and horrible turnout for the AGM last year, this year we have decided on the date in September and it will be MAY 27th, the week following the long weekend, lets try to have a record turnout this year (trust me it shouldn't be hard)
Player fees for this season are still TBD but believe me they will still be the best deal in town for a sports league!
We look forward to seeing you out on the 13th and good luck to all newcomers.
I can be reached at dan@dmbtax.com if you have any questions!
